Sharing Contact Information
Sharing Contact Information
Sometimes you want to take a conversation beyond the platform — maybe to arrange a meetup, coordinate a delivery, or simply stay in touch. The contact system lets you share personal details like your phone number, email, and address with other members, but only when you choose to. No one can see your contact information unless you explicitly grant them access.
How It Works
Contact sharing works like this:
- Someone visits your profile and requests access to your contact information
- You receive a notification and review the request
- You accept or reject the request
- If accepted, the requester can see your contact details
- You can revoke access at any time
There's no automatic sharing, no public visibility, and no way to bypass the approval step.
Setting Up Your Contact Information
Before anyone can request your details, you need to add them to your profile. Go to your profile edit page and fill in the contact section:
- Phone — your phone number
- Contact Email — a separate email address for contact purposes (this is not your login email)
- Address — your physical address or a general location
- Contact Notes — any additional context, like preferred contact hours or communication preferences
You can fill in as many or as few fields as you like. Any fields you leave empty simply won't appear when someone views your contact information.
Requesting Someone's Contact Information
When you visit another member's profile, you'll see their public information — name, bio, skills, and communities. Their contact details, however, are hidden behind a locked section.
To request access:
- Visit the member's profile by clicking on their name or avatar anywhere in the community
- Look for the contact information section — it will show a lock icon
- Click "Request contact information"
- Wait for the other person to respond
Once you've sent a request, the button changes to "Access request pending" so you know it's been submitted. You'll receive a notification when the request is accepted.
Responding to Requests
When someone requests your contact information, two things happen:
- You receive a notification letting you know who made the request
- The request appears on your Contacts page — click your profile picture in the top-right corner and select Contacts to find it
On the Contacts page, you'll see a Pending Contact Requests section at the top. Each request shows the requester's name, avatar, and when they sent the request. You have two options:
- Accept — grants the requester access to your contact details and sends them a notification
- Reject — declines the request without sharing anything
Managing Your Contacts
The Contacts page is your central hub for managing contact relationships. You can open it from your profile menu in the top-right corner. It has three sections:
Pending Contact Requests
Requests waiting for your response. Accept or reject each one individually.
My Contacts
People who have granted you access to their contact information. For each contact, you can see their shared details — phone, email, address — and a link to view their full profile.
Granted Access
People you've given access to your contact information. Each entry shows the member's name and when you granted access. If you change your mind, click "Revoke" to remove their access immediately.
Revoking Access
You're always in control. If you've granted someone access and later decide you'd rather not share your details with them:
- Open your Contacts page (click your profile picture in the top-right corner and select Contacts)
- Find the person in the Granted Access section
- Click "Revoke"
Their access is removed immediately. They'll no longer be able to see your contact information on your profile. If they want access again in the future, they'll need to send a new request.
Privacy Details
A few important things about how contact sharing works:
- All-or-nothing access — when you accept a request, the person can see all the contact fields you've filled in. You can't share your phone but hide your address, for example. To control what's visible, simply leave fields you don't want to share empty.
- Separate from your login email — the contact email field is independent of the email you use to sign in. You can share a different email address (or none at all).
- No public visibility — your contact information never appears on public pages, in search results, or anywhere outside of your profile for approved contacts.
- You can't request your own contacts — the request button only appears on other members' profiles.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can someone see my contact info without my permission? A: No. Every contact request requires your explicit approval. There is no way for another member to view your contact details without you accepting their request.
Q: What happens if I reject a request? A: The request is declined and the person won't see your contact information. They can send a new request in the future if they wish.
Q: Can I see who has access to my contact information? A: Yes. The Granted Access section on your Contacts page shows everyone you've given access to, along with a revoke option for each.
Q: Will I be notified when someone requests my contact info? A: Yes. You'll receive an in-app notification when someone sends a request, and another notification is sent to the requester when you accept.
Q: Is there a limit to how many contact requests I can send or receive? A: There's no limit. You can send and receive as many requests as you need.
Q: What if I haven't filled in any contact information? A: Other members can still send you a request, but when you accept, they'll see empty fields. It's a good idea to fill in at least one contact method before accepting requests.
Q: Can I block someone from sending me contact requests? A: There's no dedicated blocking feature for contact requests at this time. If someone is bothering you, you can reject their requests and report their behaviour through the content flagging system.
