Getting Started with Communities
Getting Started with Communities
Communities is a platform for connecting with people in your local area. Whether you want to organise neighbourhood events, share recommendations, coordinate a hobby group, or simply get to know the people around you, Communities gives you the tools to make it happen.
This guide gives you a quick overview of the first steps. Each section links to a more detailed article if you want to dive deeper.
Set Up Your Profile
Before joining or creating a community, take a moment to set up your profile. Add your name, location, bio, and a profile picture so other members know who you are.
For a full walkthrough, see Setting Up Your Profile.
Find Communities Near You
Use the Discover page to browse communities in your area. You can search by name, explore the map, or filter by tags. When you find one that interests you, request to join — some communities accept members automatically, while others require approval.
For tips on finding the right community, see Finding Communities Near You.
Create Your First Community
Ready to start your own? Here's the short version:
- Click the community switcher (arrows icon) next to the logo and select Create a Community.
- Fill in your community's name, description, location, and missions.
- After creating, head to Settings to customise your community — upload a cover image, configure privacy, write a landing page, and add search tags.
For a detailed step-by-step guide, see Creating Your First Community.
Invite Members and Create Events
Once your community is set up:
- Invite members — go to your community and click Invite in the navigation to share an invite link.
